Belief in the Trinity – God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – is central to the Christian faith. They believe that God is three in one:
- God the Father created the world.
- Jesus, the Son, came to earth in human form – incarnated – to die on the cross for the sins humans have created, offering humans a way to a relationship with God.
- The Holy Spirit – sometimes referred to as ‘the Helper’ in the Bible – is sent to offer strength, support, and courage to believers, helping them to fulfill the will of God.
Christians show their belief in the Trinity in a number of ways:
- Prayers – prayers, such as The Lord’s Prayer, make reference to the Trinity. Christians sometimes say prayers ‘in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.’
- Creeds – the Nicene Creed and Apostles’ Creed make specific references to the Trinity.
- Worship – Christians sing songs in church that often refer to the Trinity.
- Some Christians make the sign of the cross when they pray.
